3rdAvenuePhotography is named for Tercera Avenida in the heart of Guatemala City, Guatemala, where I was born and lived until I was 6 years old. The home belonged to my grandmother which was built in 1898. I still have vivid memories of the old home and the distinctive Spanish door – appropriately, there is a photograph to document that!
My name gets lots of questions – my family has been in Guatemala for three generations but we are Chinese. An Asian/Hispanic background, I am proud to say, adds color and texture to my life experiences – and my work! I also love hearing stories from the people who share their time with me during our photo sessions, and they enrich every photo I take.
In 2001, I purchased my first digital camera and started clicking away. In the years to come, my cameras would record stories of world travel, my first home purchase, getting engaged to the lovely woman who is now my wife, random family gatherings, and hilarious moments with friends. During my decade in new home sales, I would take pictures of each client in front of their new home to document their dream come true. I thoroughly enjoy telling stories with my camera and 23,439 pictures later 3rd Avenue Photography is born.
